If you are a victim of domestic violence and call the cops to get a restraining order on your spouse, you can rest assured that you will end up in deportation proceedings, along with your children. This is the 14 year old and the mom that ICE is deporting TONIGHT at 9 PM EST while Obama and Senator Menendez stand on the sidelines, contrary to statutory exceptions such as VAWA. So much for prosecutorial discretion.
Never forget.

I think my problem with this is that even though it’s domestic violence, and it is bad, you’re here illegally. I know what it’s like to be the victim. I just wouldn’t expect to go to another country, call the cops, and tell them that my husband hit me and that I’m not a citizen of this country, and expect to stay. I know they’d ship my ass right back to the USA. It’s just the way it is. The proper channels could have saved people a lot of trouble.

well gee, what did she think was going to happen. i feel bad that she was being abused, but come on.
if you’re dealing cocaine and you call the cops for some reason, yes you are going to be arrested for dealing cocaine. (extreme example i know, BUT) if you are doing something illegal, its not a good idea to call the cops. duh.

Well, you are dumb. U.S. laws protect victims of domestic violence with statutory laws such as VAWA. In fact, anyone who is a victim of a serious crime in the U.S. and agrees to cooperate with the police, is eligible for a U-visa. So, duh.
Also, likening being out of status (a civil infraction) with cocaine (aggravated felony)? You aren’t exactly showing off your knowledge of crimes and misdemeanors. Don’t quit your day job.

Come one, come all, to the greatest show on earth! Poor understanding of our justice system and an inability to discriminate between civil and criminal infractions…not to mention a lack of compassion and an unwillingness to walk in other people’s shoes.
